UNESCO highlights 500-year-old carillon culture in Belgium
On Friday, 18 September 2015, Brussels will become THE carillon city of Europe. On that day, carillonneurs from home and abroad will be gathering in our country´s capital. The high point will be the ´transformation´ of the Saint Michael and Saint Gudula Cathedral into the biggest ´live jukebox´ in the world!
10:30-13:45: Mobile carillon act on top of the Kunstberg with carillonneurs from Flanders and Wallonia together with students of different carillon schools

14:00-14:30: Official hand over of the UNESCO Certificate to the Belgian Carillon Associations

Welcome by Ms Karine Lalieux, Alderman for Culture in Brussels
Presentation of the nomination file by Minister of State Philippe Busquin and Professor Marc Vervenne
Official hand over of the official UNESCO charter from the hands of Mr Salvatore Mineo, Officer-in-Charge of the UNESCO Liaison Office to the European Institutions in Brussels.
15:00-16:30: Carillon concert and public reception in the park right in front of the Cathedral, with a tasting of a special ‘Carillon Beer’
On this occasion, the audience will get the opportunity to choose by mobile app items to be played by the carilloneur and, as a consequence, to transform the 49 bells carillon into the biggest live jukebox in the world!

Because of safety reasons and due to the limited number of seats in the Brussels Town Hall, you must register separately for the official part via this link.
After registration, you will receive a personal admission ticket and a voucher to taste the ‘Carillon Beer’
Unesco zet 500 jaar oude Belgische beiaardcultuur in de kijker
Op vrijdag 18 september 2015 is Brussel DE beiaardstad van Europa. Beiaardiers uit binnen- en buitenland verzamelen op die dag in de hoofdstad van ons land. Hoogtepunt is de ‘omtovering’ van de Sint-Goedele en Sint-Michielskathedraal tot de grootste ‘live jukebox’ ter wereld!
10.30u-13.45u: Beiaardoptreden bovenaan de Kunstberg, met beiaardiers uit Vlaanderen en Wallonië, samen met studenten van de verschillende beiaardscholen.

14.00u-14.30u: Officiële overhandiging van de Unesco-oorkonde aan de Belgische beiaardverenigingen

Voorstelling van het beiaarddossier door Minister van Staat Philippe Busquin en Prof. dr. Marc Vervenne
Officiële overhandiging van de Unesco-oorkonde aan de Belgische beiaardverenigingen door de heer Salvatore Mineo, Hoofd van het Unesco Verbindingskantoor bij de Europese Instellingen in Brussel
15.00u-16.30u: Beiaardconcert en receptie op het voorplein van de kathedraal, met degustatie van het Beiaardbier
Bij deze gelegenheid kan het publiek, onder meer met een mobiele app, bepalen welke nummers de beiaardier speelt, waardoor de kathedraal met haar 49 klokken de grootste live jukebox ter wereld wordt!
U wordt vriendelijk verzocht u hier te registreren voor het Beiaardconcert en de receptie.

L'UNESCO célèbre la culture belge du carillon vieille de 500 ans!
Le vendredi 18 septembre 2015, Bruxelles sera la capitale européenne du carillon. Ce jour-là , des carillonneurs belges et étrangers se rassembleront dans notre capitale. Le point d'orgue de l'événement sera la transformation de la cathédrale des Saints Michel et Gudule en le plus grand « juke-box live » du monde !
10h30-13h45: Concert de carillon au-dessus du Mont des Arts, avec des carillonneurs de Wallonie, de Flandre et des étudiants des différents écoles de carillon.

14h00-14h30: Remise officielle des certificats Unesco aux Associations Campanaires belges

15h00-16h30: Concert de carillon et réception au parvis de la cathédrale, avec dégustation de la « Beiaardbier » (« Bière du Carillon »)
A cette occasion, le public pourra choisir les morceaux qui seront joués et ainsi, avec ses 49 cloches, le carillon de la cathédrale deviendra
« le plus grand juke-box au monde »
